Lecar announces factory in the Holy Spirit

New address and details of the Lecar 459 Hybrid were presented at a press conference held yesterday in Sao Paulo

The good son to the house makes. Announced to the public in December 2023, the Brazilian automaker Lecar, founded by the businessman Flavio Figueiredo Assis, already has a place to call his own. The new address, as well as details of its Lecar 459 Hybrid model, were released at a press conference held yesterday in Sao Paulo. The company will settle in the municipality of Sooretama, in Espirito Santo, 119 km from the capital, Vitoria.

The investment will be of the order of R$ 870 million, being R$ 240 million in works of installations and R$ 630 million in automations for assembly line. The capital will come from own resources and private investors. The company also analyzes the search for funding from Sudene, BNB, Bandes, Finep and BNDES.

During the event, which was attended by journalists, partners and authorities, the automaker stressed that the strategic location of the factory was decisive for the choice. The city is only 25 km from Linhares airport and 100 km from the port complex of Espirito Santo, which is responsible for 23% of exports and imports from Brazil.

No wonder, the region concentrates an important industrial hub, with the presence of major players such as Marcopolo, Volare, Agrale, Randon and Weg. Representatives of these companies were also present at the conference, presenting their contributions to the factory and expectations with the project.

During the event were presented small spoilers on the new design model and engine of the 459 Hybrid, leaving the main focus for the industrial plant, which is on the margins of BR 101 and has 460 thousand square meters. The company will have exemption and tax benefits related to the construction and operation for a period of 10 years.

All these benefits make Lecar walk at maximum speed towards the solidification of a genuinely Brazilian sustainable mobility company. “After evaluating options in several states, we came to the conclusion that Espirito Santo, the land where the company originated, would be the best place to materialize this dream”, highlights Assis.

The construction of the building will be under the responsibility of Machine Development. For the assembly line, Lecar will be able to count on Comau, an Italian multinational specialized in industrial automation and advanced robotics.

With more than 25 years of experience in the Brazilian automotive industry, Comau has a strong international presence and is working on projects with large electric vehicle manufacturers and battery factories. Falcare Industrial Equipment will operate in the facilities and automation of the painting and assembly line, focusing on the use of highly technological and sustainable materials. Among its resources for this mission is the technology of Geico SPA, one of the largest world leaders in paint systems.

The ecological focus meets the purpose of the automaker. Alignment of extreme pride for the parts. “It is an honor for us to be part of this story. We are a national company, contributing to a more sustainable assembly line of another 100% Brazilian company, in the certainty that we will contribute to bring to the population a technological vehicle, friendly to the environment and adhering to the needs of our population”, points out Nivaldo Falcare, CEO of the company.

It will be 100 thousand meters of built area being 130 direct workers in the construction phase and about 300 in the installations and production line phase. The launch of the cornerstone will take place in 2024 and the opening forecast is August 2026.

When ready, the factory will have the capacity to produce 120 thousand cars per year, with about 1,500 direct employees and up to 3 thousand indirect employees. The plant will initially produce the Lecar 459 Hybrid, and will have a test track and strict production and quality controls.

Attentive to environmental issues, the factory will seek LEED GOLD and Green Seal certifications, aiming at safety, punctuality, productivity and waste reduction. The space will have a solar power generation system, as well as rainwater reuse.

Vising to positively impact the local community, Lecar plans to create a labor qualification program, innovation laboratory, as well as remuneration and benefits compatible with the automotive industry. “Brazil is facing the opportunity to become a major player in global sustainable mobility. We will spare no effort to put our country on the path to the future”, concludes Assis.
